Potassium Bichromate is an orange crystal that when dissolved in water and applied to certain woods will turn them a deep brown. The amount of tannin in the wood will determine the depth of color. Works well on hardwoods like oak, ash, cherry, walnut, etc. It works very well on mahogany to produce deep browns. Always experement on scraps to determine suitability.
Mix 1/2 oz. Potassium Bichromate to 1/2 gallon of water for a medium strength mix. For a stronger mix add more crystal or make a second application. For lighter shades add water to dilute the solution.
Potassium Bichromate is an oxidizer. Always wear gloves when handeling. Wear a dust mask when handeling the dry crystal.
