Potassium Permanganate is one of the most widely used chemicals for coloring wood. It comes in violet crystals to be dissolved in cold water. The colors resulting from its use are beautiful, transparent nut browns. Works excellent on hardwoods. It gives maple a golden brown color.
Mix 3 ozs. in a half gallon of water for a medium solution. The first color noted upon application is violet, but changes to brown when dry. The stronger the solution the darker the color. - Reviews
